Summary and Purpose

Our organization is seeking a highly qualified Technical Specialist be a member of our Tulsa, Oklahoma team. Reporting to the Manager of Asset Integrity, the primary purpose of the Technical Specialist will be responsible for providing technical expertise regarding coating applications, selections, and standards to Stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and Operations.


Tulsa, Oklahoma is the preferred location. However, Houston, Texas, Salt Lake City, Utah, and/or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania may be considered


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for stewarding the Coatings Community of Practice (COP), while supporting teams of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Operations. 
  • Coating Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all of Williams Assets, including onshore and offshore pipelines and facilities.
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of coating systems including working with pipe coating mills
  • Must be available to work after hours to aid and assist other technicians to help troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Determine “Root Cause Analysis” of Coating analysis investigations.
  • Provide field local enterprise training and presentations to stakeholders throughout the organization  
  • Perform “Coating Application Inspections” as needed
  • Accurately maintain and be the content owner of Coating Standards
  • Be the point of contact for coating vendor price negotiations


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to travel up to 70% and/or as business needs require. The travel of this position will be based on coating related trainings, problems, and/or projects.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of natural gas pipeline facility coatings experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business
  • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) parts 192 Natural Gas and 195 Liquid Pipeline Regulations         
  • NACE Certified CIP Level III or equivalent certifications.
  • Knowledge of “Coating Destructive” and “Non-Destructive Testing” inspection techniques
  • Ability to wear safety gear, protective equipment, gloves, uniforms, and other articles of safety clothing or gear as required by OSHA,DOT, or other regulatory agencies. 
  • Ability to work after hours, on-call rotations, which may require some nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Demonstrates an intermediate knowledge of general computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and have the ability and willingness  to learn company specific programs
  • Working knowledge of “Corrosion Control Mitigation Methodology” and “Corrosion Mechanisms.”
  • Knowledge and experience working with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.3, B31.4, B31.8 piping codes.
  • Working knowledge of American Petroleum Institute (API) RP 2A LRFD and WSD with emphasis on Level I, II, and III platform inspections.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to coating work


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or Associate’s Degree is preferred, but not required with sufficient pipeline coating experience
