System Admin IV - Infrastructure Architect


The ideal candidate should have 10+ years of infrastructure experience and should have excellent communication skills with both technical and business professionals. The Infrastructure Architect (IA) should be able to work with all aspects of our IT team.  The right candidate should technically sound, a problem solver, and an initial activity will be to lead our efforts to implement automation into our IT environment. 


Infrastructure Architect Role Expectations:


  • The primary role of this position will be to lead automation activities. This will include analyzing tools and creating a roadmap of activities.  The scope of automation of tasks for infrastructure, security, network, and applications. 
  • Define the roadmap for the various infrastructure technologies
  • Refine, Document, and publish IT standards, best practices, procedures, policies and guidelines to ensure a high-degree systems standardization, availability and stability.
  • Maintain a relationship with vendors and awareness of products on the landscape (that we use and may potentially use). 
  • Recommends, architect and implement solutions to resolve technological needs for business operations.
  • Analyze current business strategies; and recommends, advises, and presents technological alternatives to meet short and long term technological needs
  • Ensure planning, design and implementation processes to meet or exceed projects goals and business objectives. 
  • Proactively recommends changes to avoid potential systems issues.  
  • While this position is not formally on call, there may be times you are called on to assist in resolving complex infrastructure issues & outages
  • Expert level knowledge of virtualization technologies
  • Make recommendations on usage of containers, cloud services, DR.
  • Storage: Working knowledge of  SAN/NAS technologies.  We are primarily a NetApp shop.
  • Be able to effectively interact with network and security teams on a technical level. 
  • Work independently with very little supervision while providing clear documented activities.
  • Work with our DR team on maintaining the appropriate architecture and infrastructure to ensure we can effectively recover our systems.
  • Working knowledge of XaaS programs.  Lead or be critical team member evaluating the various XaaS platforms. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.



The Infrastructure Architect should have awareness/experience with the following technologies or environments:

  • Windows Server: In-depth knowledge for application hosting, performance tuning and application deployments
  • In depth knowledge of Linux Operating Systems
  • Knowledge and hands on technical experience with Cloud to include Public/Private or Hybrid environments
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL data bases, as well as awareness of other data base technologies
  • Microsoft Exchange or Office 365 awareness
  • Azure/AWS/Google Cloud awareness
  • Active Directory
  • Scripting skills
  • Solution Sizing for hardware/software platforms
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure Management techniques, monitoring tools, and key vendors in this space.
  • Knowledge of F5 Load Balancers
  • Virtualization technology knowledge
  • Familiar with Industry standard security requirements and designs.
  • This is not a network architect role but an awareness of principles of networking is important.
