The Safety & Health Specialist IV is a corporate subject matter expert who actively supports field EHS staff, engages with Construction & Operations Management, participates in advisory groups and focus teams, and drives a process safety culture.  This position frequently engages with management and is the lead role on projects and corporate initiatives.
This person is a resource for complex work plans to ensure employee, process and construction safety compliance.  The Safety & Health Specialist is a primary contributor to the safety & health standards and procedures that create the Williams Integrated Management System (WIMS).

  • Ensures that programs and processes are in place for the efficient and effective achievement of company objectives as related to process, and occupational safety management
  • Leads the development and review of safety & health standards and procedures.
  • Leads the facilitation and/or participation in high consequence incident investigations and hazard/near misses.
  • Responsible for mentoring field EHS staff and operations on Life Critical procedures. (e.g., work permitting, work planning, hot work, confined space, management of change, lockout/tag out, and gas detection).
  • Participate, as requested, in PHA and MOC process to help identify and eliminate potential safety hazards.
  • Participate on internal advisory committees and focus teams as the safety SME.
  • Assist in executing departmental goals that support and meet the expectations of executive management.
  • Lead role on Safety Policy Manual/Safety Information into WIMS.
  • Participate in assurance audits providing expertise in employee safety and process safety.
  • Monitor applicable regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, DOT, and SEMS) and communicate potential impacts to Operations and Construction.
  • Research and interpret regulations and possess the ability to clearly communicate requirements through written and verbal methods.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, EHS or similar technical discipline.  Master’s degree in Safety preferred.
  • Safety Certification preferred but not required [Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s)].
  • Minimum 8 years safety experience in the energy industry preferably natural gas.  Technical knowledge in natural gas gathering & processing, fractionation and transmission operations desired.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operations and project groups.
  • Working knowledge of EHS Management Systems and safety metrics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management, behavior based safety and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity and interest in DOT hazmat transportation and SEMS offshore compliance.
  • Ability to solve problems in a practical and efficient manner.
  • Ability to collaborate and productively influence decisions.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in order to support multiple groups.
  • Must be a self-starter with initiative to enhance work processes.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
