The Safety & Health Specialist  (Industrial Hygiene discipline) is a corporate subject matter expert who actively supports field EHS staff, engages with Operations Management, participates in advisory groups and focus teams, and drives a process safety culture. This person is the primary resource for industrial hygiene and occupational health throughout the company.  The Safety & Health Specialist will develop a strategy and implement a program to achieve the established vision and goals of a sustainable industrial hygiene program. Responsibilities and participation in safety initiatives would be assigned as needed. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that programs and processes are in place for the efficient and effective achievement of company objectives as related to process, and occupational safety management.
  • Design and implement a corporate industrial hygiene program.
  • Provide project direction to 3rd party industrial hygiene consultant(s).
  • Supports development and review of safety & health standards and procedures. 
  • Responsible for mentoring field EHS staff and operations on industrial hygiene and occupational health regulations and procedures.
  • Participate on internal advisory committees and focus teams as the industrial hygiene SME.
  • Participate in assurance audits providing expertise in industrial hygiene practices.
  • Assist in executing departmental goals that support and meet the expectations of executive management.
  • Monitor applicable regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, DOT, and SEMS) and communicate potential impacts to Operations.
  • Research and interpret regulations and possess the ability to clearly communicate requirements through written and verbal methods.

     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, EHS or similar technical discipline.  Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene preferred.
  • Safety Certification preferred but not required [Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s)].
  • Minimum 8 + years industrial hygiene experience in the energy industry preferably natural gas.  Technical knowledge in natural gas gathering & processing, fractionation and transmission operations desired.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operations and project groups.
  • Working knowledge of EHS Management Systems and safety metrics.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management, behavior based safety and industry best practices.
  • Ability to solve problems in a practical and efficient manner.
  • Ability to collaborate and productively influence decisions.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
