Senior Process Engineer

 

Williams is a premier developer and operator of energy infrastructure in North America; one of the top gathering and processing companies in the country and a major interstate transporter of natural gas.

Our organization is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Engineer to join our workforce. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide process engineering support to the organization through support to Operations in troubleshooting, routine operations, overpressure protection studies, optimization, and support to Engineering Services in process design oversight on new facilities and modifications to existing equipment.  Additionally, this role will include data collection and analysis to troubleshoot existing plants and support safety/environmental inquiries, generating and using process simulation models to support a variety of tasks, establishing parameters for process control, and mentoring less-experienced process engineers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the various facilities within Williams on overpressure protection studies, equipment sizing and calculations, equipment datasheets, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, material selection, vendor data reviews and overall coordination of process design inputs from other engineering disciplines.
  • Specific experience in performing overpressure protection analysis of facilities including relief device calculations, overpressure scenario analysis, and disposal system analysis including headers, knockout drums, flares and vents.  Specific experience in iPRSM and Aspen Flare System Analyzer is preferred.
  • Provide technical support to functional departments, as part of troubleshooting, regulatory compliance and optimization, during routine operations, start up and turnarounds.
  • Provide review of basic process design packages, including basis of design, process flow diagrams, material and energy balance, utility balance and equipment list, as well as initial project justifications and economic analyses.
  • Apply computer simulation models to achieve optimum plant performance, and assist project control and automation team with developing process control strategies.
  • Drive cross-functional teams to continually identify and implement facility improvements that focus on enhanced EH&S performance, increased reliability, increased production, cost optimization and waste minimization.
  • Prepare and coordinate studies in the field to develop, test and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with new technology selection and implementation.
  • Provide calculated emission estimates.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs) and other Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
  • Develop training packages on technical subjects for field operations staff.
  • Mentoring less-experienced engineers to help develop them into SMEs.

 

Functional/Technical Competencies:

  • Have experience with process simulation software packages such as VMGSim, ProMax, or HYSYS.
  • Preferred to have experience with iPRSM and Aspen Flare System Analyzer.
  • Have computer experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Projects, PowerPoint and Excel Work products.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple complex projects with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Have the motivation and ability to improve existing processes.
  • Understand the economic drivers of opportunities being developed and incorporates them into optimized facility designs.
  • Have knowledge of economic models as they relate to engineering projects.

Qualifications:

A Successful Candidate Will:

  • Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering that provides knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Minimum 8-12 years of related work experience.

 

A Successful Candidate May:

  • Possess a Masters degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Oil and gas industry preferred, but still acquiring higher level knowledge and capabilities.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer license.

 

*This position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience.
