The Telecommunications Engineer reports to the Telecommunications Engineering & Project Management  Manager – West Operating Area.  Responsible for telecommunications design, implementation, coordination, and operation of multiple telecommunications systems serving gas gathering systems in the Western United Status.  Responsible for FCC and FAA application and coordination.  The senior telecommunications engineer position performs project design, cost estimating, budgeting, consultation, technical project leadership, and systems support leadership roles for the West Telecommunications team.  Having or acquiring an understanding of gas gathering systems operations is necessary.


Provide design and support of integrated voice & data telecommunications systems including, but not limited to, microwave radio, fiber & copper cabling, IP data networks, security video & access control, voice & data radio (UHF, VHF, HF, etc), Vsat, public/private cellular LTE and their supporting power systems, buildings, backup generators, tower structures, and monitoring systems.




As a Functional Lead:

  • Provide telecommunications support for SCADA operations
  • Prepare capital budget replacement and enhancement items
  • Provide operational and maintenance activities support
  • Provide technical consultation for gas gathering projects
  • Assure compliance of Telecommunications activities with Williams Policies and Procedures
  • Assure compliance of Telecommunications activities with government regulatory agencies
  • Maintain current knowledge of telecommunications technologies

As a Responsible Engineer:

  • Responsible for design and architecture
  • Responsible for preparation of proposals, scope and budget development, specification development, issuing/reviewing bid packages, preparing engineering drawings, delivering recommendations to project management
  • Responsible for visits to clients, jobsites, and consultant offices
  • Participates in factory acceptance testing at supplier facilities
  • Inspects/approves subcontractor services


The candidate shall be responsible for technical leadership and successful execution of projects’ scope of work.  Candidates should have held positions of key responsibility and have direct hands-on experience in project execution from conceptual design, feasibility studies, front-end design to detailed design.  Experience collaborating/negotiating with public authorities, common carriers, and participation with standards forming bodies would be useful.  Commercial astuteness, leadership skills, and a disposition to teamwork are important attributes. The successful candidate is an effective communicator and organizer, possesses key project planning skills, excellent grammatical writing skills, and is a good communicator.  Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate, problem solve, and formulate solutions are required.  Strong written communications skills to produce technical documentation and business correspondence meeting professional standards are required.





Minimum 2-7 years of telecommunications industry experience including design and construction portfolio.  Must have successful project management experience working with medium-scale, complex, integrated telecommunications systems, a broad working knowledge of technology in the specialty area, the principles and practices of related technical areas, and coordination of work with other technical disciplines.


A broad commercial knowledge of the contracting process and technical precedents in the industry is expected.


  • Working knowledge of microwave, satellite, fiber optic, and broadband transmission systems
  • Working knowledge of UHF & VHF radio system design
  • Experience designing microwave systems and paths:   prepare profiles and link budgets
  • Experience filling FCC and FAA applications
  • Working knowledge of public/private LTE communications systems
  • Experience designing LTE systems and coverage
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing LTE communications




  • BS or MS in Electrical or Telecommunications-related Engineering
