Summary and Purpose

Our organization is seeing a highly skilled Technical Specialist to be a member of our Salt Lake City, Utah Pipeline Safety Group. Reporting to the Manager of Pipeline Safety, the primary purpose of the Technical Specialist is to provide technical support in the area of field controls automation to Northwest Pipeline’s Engineering, Operations, Gas Control, and SCADA teams.  


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in measurement audits, compression projects, and associated facility commissioning activities
  • Manage projects by performing some, or all of the following functions:  Detailed Scope, Preparation of Estimates, Design of Facilities, Forecast Project Expenditures, and Prepare/Review Engineering drawings
  • Provide expertise around the programming and troubleshooting of  Programmable Logix Controls (PLC’s), Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s)
  • Adhere to company specifications, policies, and procedures
  • Available to work after hours to aid and assist other technicians to help troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Execute control system integration on multiple complex projects, while providing a high level of customer service
  • Project and process service requests for pipeline facilities, meter stations, separation facilities, compressor stations, etc...
  • Determine root cause analysis of failures and problems with automation equipment
  • Mentor others through technical training and guidance on planning, scheduling, and engineering subjects


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the pipeline industry
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business
  • Ability to work after hours as needed
  • Ability to work in both a team setting and individually with minimal supervision
  • Possess an intermediate knowledge level of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), with the ability to learn other company specific applications
  • Ability to travel up to 25%


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Seven (7) years’ experience within the pipeline industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC and Fisher ROC programming
  • Comprehensive knowledge with  In-Touch Wonderware software
