Our organization is seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer/Technical Specialist to join our workforce. The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide controls expertise for ongoing operations, changes to operating conditions and integration of new technology and facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that electronics and programs in compressor station engine and station control PLC’s, HMI’s, Meter Stations, and valve automation systems are functioning properly, effectively and reliably. Responsibilities will include providing subject matter expert assistance to Operations on issues related to automated control systems, attending project design reviews, commissioning of new facilities. 



  • Provide Tier II automation technical support for the Princeton Division facilities in PA, NJ, and NY in areas of Station Control, MU controls, Pipeline OPP, pipeline valve control, Gas Turbine Controls, Auxiliary control systems and HMI’s. 
  • Provide guidance and technical support to District Technicians in automation practices.  Recommend training opportunities to District management.
  • Interface with Engineering and Operations to identify preferred alternatives for integrating new projects into existing infrastructure.
  • Review proposed Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering designs as they pertain to station automation systems for new projects.
  • Provide technical support during equipment inspection and at various vendor’s facilities for automation equipment purchased for Williams’ projects.
  • Provide technical assistance during selected construction and start-up activities.
  • Prepare information for automation equipment budget recommendations.
  • Provide Tier II support for medium voltage systems, MCC’s and electric motors used for pumps. 




  • Technical School degree or significant technical training in automation and electronics.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in automation and controls.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with pipeline operations and maintenance
  • Experience in automation of reciprocating and centrifugal compression and plant operations.
  • Knowledge and experience in PLC & HMI programming.
  • Ability to communicate effectively – verbally and in writing.
  • Experience leading and working in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan work activities with customers and adjust priorities as requested with minimal direction.
  • Experience installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting instruments and controllers.
  • Ability to design and assist with installation, program and commission of control panels.
  • Knowledge and experience with LAN, router and SCADA communications.
  • Understand station and unit control philosophy. 


  • Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, servers and network administration. 
  • Experience programming Allen Bradley PLC software packages including PLC5, RSLogix500, and RSLogix5000.
  • Experience in programming Wonderware HMI and RSView studio software.
  • Experience in communicating with Allen Bradley software packages using RSLinx and Factory talk utilizing ControlNet and Ethernet/IP drivers.
  • Experience with ScadaPak, Control Logix, SCADA / HMI.
  • Proficient with pneumatic controls
