Our Organization is seeking a highly skilled Operations Technician II (Compressor Mechanic) II. The successful candidate will set, maintain, repair, and operate compressors in their respective area for Williams Compression.



  • Read and record the amounts of gas received/delivered/consumed and report any operational, temperature and pressure changes as needed in operating logs. Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly.
  • Operate power-driven pumps that transfer liquids, semi-liquids, gases or powdered materials. This includes adding these materials on the equipment and properly disposing of them.
  • Respond to problems by troubleshooting, diagnostic testing (utilizing computer software as applicable), and repairing/adjusting equipment as needed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for oil samples and submit for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform proper preventative maintenance and repair, maintain and operate the equipment using hand tools and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining replacement/repair parts for their assigned units.
  • Properly set units and perform start-up procedures on location.
  • Ensure field equipment is operating under current emissions guidelines/standards.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and electric starters, fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, ignition systems and other compression related anatomy.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Accurately report time in accordance with work performed daily.
  • All duties are to be performed in accordance with Williams Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines.

Functional/Technical Competencies:

  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge through effective use of a company computer (when applicable) including Microsoft Office applications. Able to learn company specific applications
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment focusing on teamwork and unity
  • Ability to teach others skills in an effective and cooperative manner
  • Ability to assess and anticipate requirements. Prioritization, reasoning and time management skills required
  • Adaptable to a changing workplace
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazardous/unsafe working conditions and report to immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have knowledge of mechanical equipment and willingness to learn and develop the Operation Technician training program
  • Previously worked with Caterpillar Engines, Compressors, etc…
  • Troubleshoot and Maintain Centrifugal Pumps, PD Pumps, Piston Pumps, etc…
  • Utilize knowledge and experience to solve moderate and to high-complex issues
  • Work independently under minimal supervision and demonstrate professional conduct and business ethics
  • Participate in rotating call out schedules, including holidays, nights, and weekends
  • Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Be able to apply fundamental evaluations and present recommendations
  • Possess advanced troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess a Vocational or Technical Educational Certification in a related field.
  • Have knowledge of machine and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Have experience with modern engines and compressors used in the natural gas industry.
  • Have mechanical experience in a related field.
  • Contain 3+ years oil and gas processing plant operations

Physical Requirements:

NOTE:  The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment physical demand validation in order to demonstrate the capabilities to safely perform the essential physical functions of the on-site job demands listed below.


  • STANDING / WALKING: Employee must have the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, and be able to walk over uneven, wet, slippery, snowy or icy terrain with functional balance that does not require any special assistive devices.


  • SITTING: Employee must have the ability to sit for sustained occasional periods of time when driving to locations and when performing computer/paperwork tasks.


  • AGILITY DEMANDS: Employee must be able to move the extremities and spine through a functional range of motion that will permit work to be safely performed from ground/floor level to full overhead level. Working in awkward postures to include flexing and twisting of the body, stooping, kneeling, and squatting while simultaneously reaching is required for this job.


  • COORDINATION/ PROPRIOCEPTION/ BALANCE: Employee must have general functional body and extremity coordination and body senses to include position sense, hearing in the auditory range, visual acuity to include depth perception, sense of touch, and stereognosis (ability to identify objects by touch sensation without visual input).


  • DEXTERITY DEMANDS: Employee must have good finger dexterity to manipulate small items and functional hand-eye coordination. Employee must be able to safely use one and two hands throughout the work period when handling tools and materials for conducting maintenance, repairs, and installations. Must be able to drive and operate forklifts.


  • GRIP STRENGTH DEMANDS: Employee must have adequate functional grip strength to safely lift and carry various tools, parts, and equipment throughout the work day (i.e., must be able to conduct these tasks without compensatory motions of the body that create unsafe stresses on the body). Employee must be able to functionally grip with adequate strength to safely hold onto railings of stairs with hand and the rungs of a vertical ladder with two hands when climbing. Must also be able to climb on and off equipment and on and off forklifts.


  • CLIMBING: Employee must have adequate strength and coordination to safely climb stairs, slanted ladders, vertical ladders, angled ramps. Employee must be able to safely hold onto railings of stairs with one hand and the rungs of a ladder with two hands when climbing. Must also be able to climb on and off equipment and on and off forklifts.


  • CARDIORESPIRATORY DEMANDS: Employee must have sufficient cardiorespiratory fitness to be able to perform physically demanding activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, using tools and climbing stairs and vertical ladders with exposure to extremes in temperature (heat and cold) and humidity.
