This person will be involved with job planning/permitting and observes the actual work being performed to ensure a process safety mindset is maintained during all activities.  The Safety Specialist primarily uses Williams Integrated Management System (WIMS) as a resource to execute employee, pipeline, process, and construction safety standards and procedures. This position will report to the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager assigned to the Operating Area.


  • Support Operations Supervisors, Operations Manager, Project Managers, Engineering and Construction, Operations Technicians and coordinates with other functional groups; 
  • Support development and review of Work Plans.  Participate in review of jobs involving hot work, LOTO, purge and pack, confined space, crane lifts, fall protection, simultaneous operations or other non-routine tasks; 
  • Participate in incident investigations as a facilitator, lead or team member and ensure appropriate follow up on area hazard/near misses reporting. Track area action items utilizing Gensuite software and assist the operating area with closure;   
  • Responsible for performing Life Critical and general safety related training. (e.g., work permitting, job planning, hot work, confined space awareness, management of change awareness, lockout/tag out, excavation and trenching, PSSR and gas detection awareness); 
  • Participate in PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), HAZID (Hazard Identification Study), LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) and MOC (Management of Change) process to help identify and mitigate potential safety hazards; 
  • Participate in project team meetings; 
  • Support Industrial Hygiene surveys and PPE evaluations; 
  • Possess a working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management regulations; 
  • Provide emergency response support and relationship building; 
  • Coordinate and participate in assurance and compliance audits; 
  • Provide operating area safety metric data to area leadership; 
  • Providing guidance and expertise relating to employee, pipeline, process, and construction safety. 
  • Determine applicable OSHA and other regulatory requirements and communicate potential impacts to Operations and Construction personnel; 
  • Build and maintain quality working relationships on-site with frontline Operations Technicians; 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, EHS or other technical discipline from accredited university 
  • Minimum 5 year’s safety experience in industry preferably the natural gas industry; 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operations and project groups; 
  • Ability to communicate shared experiences in process hazard recognition with frontline personnel using expressive and creative techniques in training forums and individual meetings; 
  • Working knowledge of EHS Management Systems and safety metrics; 
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management, behavior based safety and industry best practices; 
  • Ability to travel and support assets within an assigned geographic region. 



  • Formal training &/or certification in methodology of Lean (Green belt, Black belt) including root cause analysis; 
  • Safety Certification preferred [i.e.: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), National Safety Council (NSC) or similar equivalent recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s)]; 
  • Training Certification a plus [i.e.:  Certified Training Practitioner (CTP), Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) or similar equivalent recognized certification(s)];
